Senseless Tragedy

On April 16, 2007 a horrific tragedy occurred at Virginia Tech. A mentally disturbed student brutally shot his professors and fellow students. I have been a college student for about 11 years now. I could easily have been one of the victims of this senseless act of violence. I feel sickened and saddened beyond words as I read about what happened at VT. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those lost and injured. May they and everyone affected by this tragedy find strength, hope and peace from each other and from the memories of those lost.

This week I have been nearly constantly thinking about these events. I have felt profoundly disturbed by this senseless killing. What can we do to prevent this violence from happening in the future? How do people heal from this kind of atrocity? Can promoting peace and teaching peace to our children prevent them from growing into a person who would commit such a horrible act? Should our universities take more precautions? How can we help people heal and find peace in the midst of so much chaos?
