H.H. The Dalai Lama's Teachings & an update

It has been so long since I posted last. There is so much to fill in the gaps that I must refer any readers to my caring bridge page. In December 2009 I was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease which explains so many symptoms that I have had over the years. I will elaborate more in another post or you can read my CB page.

Yesterday and today I had the opportunity to attend H.H. The Dalai Lama's teachings on the Heart Sutra. It was enlightening for me (no pun intended lol) and I feel like I have at least a somewhat better grasp on one of the central teachings associated with Mahayana Buddhism. I'm not going to attempt to give any interpretation of the Heart Sutra as it is a profound teaching that one must try to learn from a guru or through meditation. It was beneficial in so many ways for me to hear the Dalai Lama speak. I have been to public talks before, but it was nice to hear a dharma talk. I also always feel a deep peace from just being in his presence that is like nothing else I have experienced.

Today Leif has the opportunity to come with me to the teaching. I felt he did very well for a four year old boy and he was able to stay for the whole teaching (over two hours). I was proud of him. I think he enjoyed being a part of it and was happy to experience the peace, compassion and understanding of all people that the Dalai Lama shared with us. I do think he is beginning to understand that only he can overcome his emotions and anger with his own discipline from within...his own peace. He has been wanting to learn more meditation lately and I am working to do more myself. Hopefully we will both be able to work together to find our own peace. Sometimes I don't feel like the best teacher, but I'm doing my best and he seems to be benefitting.

I'm tired and fighting fever so need to go rest for now but you can keep up with me on caring bridge.

Love and peace!
